West Virginia Trout Stocking Schedule 2026

Every WV DNR trout-stocked water by its 2026 schedule code

The West Virginia DNR stocks trout in 221 streams, rivers and lakes on a published 2026 schedule: each water carries one or more schedule codes that say how often, and in which months, it is stocked.

Spring stocking runs January through May depending on the code — from one stocking each month, January through April (MJ) to one stocking each week, March through May (W). Fall stocking is one stocking each week for two weeks beginning the third Monday of October (F). Statewide, the daily creel limit for trout is 6 with 12 in possession and no minimum size, unless a special regulation on the water says otherwise. The exact day a water is stocked is only published after the truck runs — each water's page lists those dates, and members get a text the same day.

Codes combine: a water marked BW-F is stocked twice a month from February through April and again for two weeks in October. An asterisk in the pamphlet means stocking may be suspended this year.

Schedule codes are summarised from the 2026 West Virginia Fishing Regulations Summary and can change during the season; the West Virginia Code and current WVDNR regulations control — check wvdnr.gov/fishing-regulations before fishing. Actual stocking dates are sourced from the WVDNR daily stocking reports and shown on each water's page.
